Welcome to the Equestrian Angel Website!
Bringing the joy of miniature horses to you
With God's Blessing, it is our mission to bring the proven benefits of equine therapy into the lives of those who for any reason do not have access. We strive to provide beneficial therapeutic interactions with individuals in need through the use of our joyful miniature horses and our friendly staff and volunteers. In addition we strive to bring awareness to the various types of equine therapy that are available to our clientelle and to encourage participation when appropriate.

Ken Roche and his wife Jennifer Roche, RN, founded the Equestrian Angel Therapeutic Outreach Program in 2009. In an effort to combine his two loves, horses and nursing, Ken has created this unique program. Ken wanted a program that is completely free of charge to the facilities that we visit, and that would help individuals to forget about their illness if only for a little while. The program has become very popular over the last year and we have a growing number of sites that we visit regularly.

Equestrian Angel, Animal Planet and Angola State Penitentiary Documentary coming this spring!

Angola State Penitentiary is using equine assisted therapy and visitation within their community. They have joined forces with the Equestrian Angel to assist with their inmate re-entry program. The REACH (Reentry, Equestrian Angel,Changing Hearts) Program will be run by the residents serving life in prison and will incorporate the assistance of the men who are serving short sentences and who will be released back into the community. The goal will be for the short timers to earn their way into the program based on good behavior and that being part of this program will help soften their heart and teach them the importance of caring for others. Vince and Eli, our founding Angels, are staying with the men at the prison to help start the program. The horses will be used for visitation throughout the prison and at the prisons on-site hospice ward bring joy, as only these special horses can, to the dying inmates.

Animal Planet was there to film the implementation of this program into the prison. The filmmakers soon became impressed and amazed with the way Angel, our newest horse, could easily melt the heart of even the hardest inmate, bring a smile to the dying and break down wall of segregation. This soon became the focus of their film and through their work they will show how effective a program like this will be.

Look for the resulting documentary on Animal Planet this spring...more information to follow!
